Amani Spa at Earth Lodge, South Africa

April 30, 2012 by

So many luxury hotel spas are only slightly upgraded versions of the same old thing. The towels might be fluffier and the setting artsier (and of course the prices higher), but it’s rare to encounter something jaw-droppingly different.

Well, prepare to exercise those jaws! The Amani Spa at Earth Lodge, an eco-sensitive luxury safari lodge in the private South African game reserve of Sabi Sabi, offers a rare combination of opulent comfort and five-star personal service with eco-friendly practices and a setting centered around the natural beauty of the African landscape.

Amani Spa has only three treatment rooms, each a tranquil sanctuary of elegant African-inspired decor. Spa treatments are both holistic and indulgent, taking advantage of local South African ingredients like Marula oil, rooibos, and baobab.

Treatments include the usual massages, pedicures, and facials, plus unique options like a mud wrap, steam, and spa shower in a cave-like refuge full of soothing music and dancing lights.

Alas, there’s one small catch — to enjoy the spa’s services, you would have to stay here:

Yes, sadly, the spa is only available to guests at the Earth Lodge. You would be forced to sleep in one of the Lodge’s 13 deluxe suites with features like butler service and private plunge pools, partake of five-star dining and a well-stocked wine cellar, and relax in common spaces like an art gallery and meditation garden. All between safari excursions to view wild nature in its finest.

Isn’t life rough?
