Boundary Hotel in London, England

Boundary, located in London, formally opened on New Year’s Eve 2008 and is the first project from Prescott & Conran Limited; succeeding projects have included Albion, Lutyens and Château Boundary.

The new-format Boundary building includes three restaurants and bars; 12 individually designed guest bedrooms, plus five suites; a small British food store; and a bakery.

The original building, a late Victorian warehouse, was vigilantly transformed over a period of three years prior to the launch in 2008. During the expansion period, particular attention was given to safeguarding the most beautiful industrial features, from the scale of the various spaces, particularly the huge double-height basement with its pavement light wells and alcove areas, to the original brickwork, both inside and out, together with the many sash windows that now provide a wealth of light for each of the bedrooms.

Great care was taken to shield and refurbish these key features. At the same time, a new two-storey glass, steel and copper extension designed by Conran & Partners was initiated, and two very ‘green’ bore holes were drilled and now help to run the bulk of the mechanical plant.

Furthermore, numerous tailored pieces of furniture were fashioned for the restaurants, suites and bedrooms, extraordinary materials were obtained from around the world, handmade beds crafted, domesticated bathroom fittings restored, custom-made kitchen equipment ordered and an extensive collection of art, from special commissions to pieces from private collections, introduced. The rooftop garden also profits from two 100-plus-year-old olive trees and a unique humidor that was bought at auction in Cuba. Terence Conran oversaw all facets of the project.

On the first and second floors there are 12 roomy guest bedrooms. The smallest of the rooms is 31 square meters and the four corner rooms benefit from 6 large sash windows. Each of the rooms has a distinctive design that has been inspired by famous designers or design movements that the owners admire. All of their rooms and suites are unique, although they have been grouped into five main categories: Boundary Rooms, Corner Rooms, Conran Suites, Large Suites and Tang Suite.

All the restaurants and rooms are wheelchair accessible and step free. One of the Boundary Rooms has been designed to ensure unrestricted mobility around the room and bathroom. Other amenities and facilities include: complimentary broadband Wi-Fi, Apple TV has been installed in suites, unproblematic stream of HD quality movies, TV programs, photos and more, Conran iPod docking stations with Bluetooth capability, complimentary use of an Apple iPad for the duration of the stay, subject to availability, large flat screen, LCD TVs, 24-hour room service, mini-bar stocked with beers, wines, spirits, soft drinks and healthy snacks, hairdryers
hair straightener available upon request, in-room climate controls, handmade UK Super King Savoir Beds, goose feather and down pillows (In two sizes and with a choice of firmness) and duvets (hypo-allergenic pillows and duvets are also available), sheets and 100% merino wool blankets can also be provided, safes suitable for laptops, extensive acoustic sound-proofing, complimentary tea, coffee and fresh milk, generous wardrobe space, and same-day dry cleaning.

Bathrooms are independently styled; the specific designers have created some of the designs, others are wet rooms. Classic Czech & Speake fittings are used in a couple and more modern variations include the Japanese TOTO combined bidet lavatory. All of the bathrooms include: REN skincare products, underfloor heating, and power showers.
