Casa Colombo Hotel in Colombo, Sri Lanka

July 11, 2011 by

Casa Colombo is a spruced up 200-year-old Moorish mansion in Colombo’s southern Bambalapitiya quarter, a luxury hotel on a budget.

This space gives the senses a real treat: trendy, wild and highly styled, the design-driven interiors were fashioned by owner Lalin Jinasena, a protégé of the renowned Geoffrey Bawa. At this hotel, personal domos (butler/concierges) care for guests every urge, and a spa and bubblegum-pink pool attract guests to unwind and relax.

This hotel is home to 12 suites, including one Royal Suite. Casa Colombo’s suites are one-of-a-kind retro-chic spaces with tailored furnishings such as oversized ‘floating’ beds, gushing sinks and minibars in pettagamas (wooden boxes). Superior category suites show off banana-shaped copper-inlaid tubs and much space, with the higher floor obviously quieter. The Royal Suite is a place where guests will enjoy your balcony Jacuzzi.

Casa Colombo’s facilities include: free WiFi throughout the hotel, library, spa, gym. In rooms: flatscreen TV, CD/DVD player, preloaded iPod, minibar and local toiletries; while Corporate and Royal Suites offer business desks with MacBook, scanner and printer.

HVN, Casa’s restaurant, was once the mansion’s grand hall. The eatery offers a combination menu of western and Sri Lankan cuisine. Guests can anticipate dishes such as chicken with ginger and lemongrass, and grilled lobster.

This hotel is eco-friendly by waste-water recycling and funds a local orphanage.
