Cocoa Island Resort in Makunufushi, Maldives

Cocoa Island is a 33-room, five-star, luxury boutique hotel in the Maldives.

This private island resort from the Coco Group caters to selective
guests looking for a foot-in-the-sand experience. With some of the
world’s best beaches, snorkeling, and diving, Cocoa Island offers a
unique stay with indulgence. At Cocoa Island, guests can practice
yoga, go for a dive, dine on gourmet cuisine, take an island
excursion, relax with a spa treatment, or simply enjoy the views from
a private over-water bungalow.

Cocoa Island resort is located on the island locally known as
Makunufushi among South Malé’s coral atolls. Unlike many other
Maldivian resorts, Cocoa Island is an accessible getaway via a short
speedboat transfer from Malé. This long and thin island is surrounded
by a reef in crystal clear water and snakes out into a perfect spit
that disappears with the evening tide.

Inspired by local dhoni boats, accommodations at Cocoa Island feature
bleached wood and kajan roofs. Each bungalow has its own planked
walkway stretching out into the warm lagoon. The eight 75 m2 Dhoni
Suites have split-level bedrooms with king-sized beds and spacious
living areas leading to a private sun deck with lagoon access. The
Loft Suites and Villas are larger with vaulted ceilings, expansive
living areas, and full-length glass windows on three sides. Villas at
Cocoa Island come with either one (125 m2) or two (300 m2) bedrooms,
pantry with microwave, stove, and fridge, outdoor showers, and private
bales. If you want your own jetty, choose the COMO Sunset Villa.

In every room at Cocoa Island guests will find handmade Italian bed
linens, air conditioning, Lavazza espresso machines, 42” plasma
televisions, DVD players, COMO Shambhala bathroom amenities, wifi,
in-room safe, and other luxury features. The resort provides
comprehensive travel and tour assistance, foreign exchange,
babysitting, personalized butlers, and a loaning library.

A stay at Cocoa Island can be enjoyed as a secluded getaway, an
adventure vacation, or anything in between. Guests will get to know
island life both above and underwater. Diving at Cocoa Island is a
unique experience with two private house reefs. The resort also offers
deep-sea fishing, windsurfing, catamaran sailing, dolphin and sunset
cruises, cooking lessons, guided snorkeling, and–for a special
picnic–even beach drop-offs. For a taste of local culture, the resort
can arrange for visits to neighboring islands and typical Maldivian
villages. Guests can see the coral atolls from a bird’s eye view on a
private sea plane charter excursion. If you like to know where dinner
came from, take a sunset fishing trip and Cocoa Island’s chefs will
prepare your catch for dinner.

After a long day, guests can enjoy cocktail hour with a drink at Faru
bar before dining at Cocoa Island’s restaurant, Ufaa, which means
“happy” in Maldivian. Set alongside the resort’s infinity pool, guests
can dine at Ufaa covered or uncovered, feet in the sand (or not),
among natural wood and Kajan thatch. Ufaa’s menu is presided over by
the Italian chef Raffaele Dadone. Tandoor dishes make the most of
grilling without fat but with plenty of flavor; seafood options
showcase the cuisine of the Malabar Coast; and for the really
health-conscious, COMO Shambhala Cuisine provides raw and/or
enzyme-rich alternatives at each meal.

For a more private affair, Cocoa Island’s butlers will take care of
every detail to accommodate private candlelit dining on your bungalow
terrace or in the sand, with water lapping at your toes. Room service
is available most of the day and evening, with familiar favorites as
well as refreshing lassis and morning juices.

If the stunning Maldivian horizon and calming waters isn’t enough to
relax you, Cocoa Island features an award-winning spa. The COMO
Shambhala Retreat offers Asian-inspired treatments such as restorative
facials, Ayurvedic therapies, cleansing baths, and a variety of
massages. Guests can purchase COMO Shambhala’s range of naturally
inspired skin products.
