Mohonk Mountain House

Back in 1869, when Albert Smiley established the Mohonk Mountain House as a getaway for guests, he did it so they could renew their body, mind, and spirit.

Little did he realize the respite he had in mind would evolve into a Victorian-style castle resort with a 30,000 square foot spa wing, tennis courts, and more.

World Class Hotel

While the Mohonk Mountain House is a National Historic Landmark that’s almost 150 years old, it is also an award-winning world class hotel.

This impressive 260 plus room castle offers a majestic setting on the rocky cliffs above a glacial lake in the Hudson River Valley. The inspiring architecture merges with its surroundings and provides a vacationing experience that offers something for everyone.

Fitness enthusiasts and nature-lovers alike enjoy the 85 miles of hiking trails, golf, tennis, as well as fitness classes including Pilates and yoga. Those who delight in water activities can take advantage boating and swimming in the lake or the pool indoors.

As winter settles over the mountain top resort, it affords opportunities for ice skating, cross country skiing, and snowshoeing. Children’s programs are available.

Rustic but Stunning Accommodations

While the Lake Shawangunk setting and view is breathtaking, before you book with the Mohonk Mountain House,┬áit is important to know that sleeping rooms are not air conditioned or equipped with a television. While some people love this as a way to really get away from it all, it’s not ideal for everyone.

Cost

The Mohonk Mountain House offers their guests a unique eco-friendly blend of history, setting, and things to do. The drawback is that it is a bit costly, with a price tag that starts around $250 a person for a standard room.

Be sure to check their website or give the resort a call for current pricing and available deal packages. If you plan to bring the kids, ask about what weeks the kids stay for free.
