The Maldives, an island nation comprised of a double-chain of 26 atolls off the coast of India, is undoubtedly a hotspot for those seeking the ultimate in island getaways.
Although the region offers dozens of luxury hotels and resorts, the Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu consistently receives rave reviews from its guests; perhaps it has something to do with the love-at-first-sight effect its very configuration has on visitors who have the advantage of seeing the property’s aerial view.
Of its 98 thatched villas, some dot the shoreline among the trees on land while the remainder stretch out into the water, forming an intricate, leaf-like pattern of villas on stilts. The visual effect, particularly from the air, is nothing short of stunning.
Offering diversions ranging from fishing, dolphin watching, and snorkeling with manta rays to outdoor movies, afternoon tea, and spa treatments, the Coco Palm also gives guests the opportunity to spend the night on its private, “deserted” island… if, that is, falling asleep just a few feet above the sea isn’t thrilling enough.
The hotel is a 30-minute sea plane ride from Male International Airport; depending on season, room rates can begin at $230 for a land villa and $580 for a lagoon villa on stilts.
A sister property, Coco Palm Body Hithi, sits at the opposite end of the island.
