The Alchymist Grand Hotel & Spa offers luxury just steps away from Prague Castle and the Charles Bridge.
This 5 star boutique hotel is nestled amid the quaint streets of Prague Lesser Town where its historical charm looks like something from a fairy tale and the hotel will make you feel like royalty. It features exquisite suites and deluxe rooms that offer historical character mingled with lavish opulence.
How Old Is Old?
The hotel is housed in the building known as the Dum u Jeziska which means House at the Jesus Child. The oldest preserved part of the building is the rear portion which faces the courtyard. It was built after 1591.
The lower part of the original tower structure dates back to the fortification of the Lesser Town in 1257. This tower later underwent a Baroque adaptation which includes a well-preserved polychrome relief sculpture of Our Lady of Loretto found between the second-floor windows.
The Haunting of the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa
As with many historical buildings, The Dum u Jeziska is the source of several legends.
One legend says that a convent once sat on the property and that a local nun seriously violated the rules of her order. The legend doesn’t go into detail but most people think it had to do with a breach of the order of celibacy – an offense for which she was bricked alive (like stoning but bricks are the weapon of choice).
It is said her unhappy soul wanders the property each night and that she will only be freed when the house built on the former convent foundation is demolished and her remains are rightly buried.
Ghost stories aside, all the rooms and suites at the Alchymist Grand Hotel and Spa offer sumptuous comfort.
The generous Deluxe rooms are perfect for couples with a queen-size bed. The Deluxe rooms are decorated in baroque style. Some feature original painted wooden ceilings, while others include design elements like wooden beams and four-poster beds.
While all the suites are spacious and elegantly decorated, the Alchymist Suite is considered one of the most romantic. It features incredible Gothic ceilings, a four-poster bed, and an Italian balcony that overlooks the inner courtyard. One favorite feature is the especially large marble bathroom with heated floors and a centrally-placed tub and separate shower.
The Ecsotica Spa and Health Club
The Ecsotica Spa is a peaceful oasis dedicated to well-being and health. The spa includes five intimately-furnished treatment rooms. One room is designed to cater to couples who want to share a romantic experience. Treatments range from deep muscular massages and relaxation aromatherapy to bathing rituals, detoxifying wraps and Darphin facials.
The hotel also offers health club facilities which offer the latest Technogym cardio and weight fitness equipment beneath vaulted Gothic ceilings and two crystal chandeliers. One lights the fitness area and the other the swimming pool.
