Naibor Camp, Masai Mara Game Reserve, Kenya

December 2, 2010 by

Naibor Camp is a nine-unit luxury tented camp in the heart of Kenya’s world famous Masai Mara Game Reserve.

At Naibor guests enjoy the perfect mix of contemporary style and luxury. Hidden in a grove of riverine woodland near the Talek River, Naibor offers a safari getaway with deluxe amenities. Located near all the major wildebeest crossing sites on the Mara River, guests at Naibor have exclusive access to year-round wildlife viewing.

Main Naibor’s well-appointed tents each have king-size beds made from local figwood, oversized sofas, wool rugs, private verandas, and 24-hour armed security. Every tent is strategically placed so that guests can experience nature in complete privacy.

Little Naibor complements the larger camp with two custom-designed suites, each with two ensuite bedrooms, private fireplaces, and a shared lounge and veranda space. Private dining areas overlook the beauty of the Talek River. At Little Naibor dedicated staff cater to guests’ every need.

After a long day of wildlife viewing, Naibor guests can unwind by the evening campfire over a pre-dinner cocktail. Experienced chefs use the finest fresh ingredients to create banquet-style dinners; guests can enjoy breakfast and lunch in the shade with views of hippos on the riverbank. Naibor also provides “Out of Africa” bush meals in private locations and sundowners with drinks and small bites.

While visiting Naibor guests experience the wildlife of the 1500-km2 Masai Mara Game Reserve. With a central location only 2 km from where the Talek River meets the Mara River, this luxury safari camp really is in the heart of the Mara Reserve and a superb point from which to explore the Mara habitat.

In addition to optional visits to area Maasai villages, guests at Naibor Camp can choose from a stunning range of jewelry made by two Maasai women. Also available in the Naibor boutique are pieces designed by Rosie Sharp. Sharp’s collection mixes chic style with exotic excellence. Like the Maasai bead jewelry pieces, this emerging designer uses local products whenever possible to capture the essence of Naibor. One of several properties in the portfolio of Wilderness Ventures, Naibor also aims to support local populations and development projects.

Game drives at Naibor are designed to optimize viewing and photographic opportunities. Guests ride in four-wheel-drive Toyota Land Cruisers with open sides and canvas tops for access and comfort. All vehicles are equipped with refrigerators so that guests can enjoy a cold drink anytime. Drivers and guides are all accredited at the KPSGA Bronze level.

Don’t miss one of the highlights at Naibor: hot air ballooning, which begins with an early morning departure, a 90-minute flight over the grasslands for wildlife viewing, a champagne breakfast, and game drive back to camp.
