St. Regis Grand, Rome

Spanish royalty, famous opera stars, business tycoons. Elizabeth Taylor, Peter Sellers, Benito Mussolini.

Since opening in 1894, the St. Regis Grand has been the choice for some of the most notable people in the world. Some, like Fiat tycoon Giovanni Agnelli, even went so far as it call it their year round residence. And it’s not hard to see why.

The hotel’s 138 guest rooms and 23 suites are individually decorated, giving each a unique identity created from a combination of Empire, Regency and Louis XV styles.

Inside the guest rooms, decor keeps to a palette of “Roman” red, gold and beige, with dark wood and velvet upholstered furnishings, giving each room a distinctly luxe feel. At the end of a day seeing the sights, guests can relax with a bath in their marble-tiled bathroom, complete with elegant marble vanity.

For the truly royal treatment, opt for the Royal Suite, where monarchs, celebs and heads of state have all laid their heads. The 3,229 square foot apartment includes its own separate elevator, his and hers dressing closets, a piano and a private wine cellar.

Prices start around 300 Euros for standard rooms, and can be booked online.
