Things to Do on Wildstrubel
The Wildstrubel chain sits like a mammoth wall that divides the Valais and the Bernese Oberland. It offers informal passes which have been in use for centuries for commercial purposes, but which now are strictly enjoyed by visitors on holiday.
Skiing: Ski tours introduce skiers to the wild and romantic Gemmi area. The Wildstrubel is composed of stunning 3000 meter peaks and is a ski tourer paradise with endless routes and skiable peaks featuring opportunities for all skill levels.
Cross-country Skiing: Trails are open from late December to late winter from Gemmipass after Sunnbuel (Kandersteg) is open. Pedestrian pathways are also cleared along the trails.
Tobogganing (Sledging): Two toboggan runs offer guest the chance to experience the historic sledging experience on wooden toboggans available for a fee. From the top of the run, guests will want to take a moment to enjoy the spectacular view before steeling themselves for the ride.
Snowshoe Hiking: Two marked snowshoe trails offer Alpine hikes on the historic path to Gemmi Pass, which was once an important traffic connection between the cantons of Berne and Valais. This hike can also be tackled wearing water-resistant shoes with treaded soles and a cane.
Reservations can be made online and there is no charge for cancellation until 3 days before arrival. However, no shows are charged 100 percent of accommodation costs. The Berghotel also welcomes clean dogs at no charge.
