Stay Here: Kex Hostel

April 17, 2013 by

Stay in Iceland, on the cheap. This hostel is no hole in the wall; even the native Icelanders come here to hang out on the weekends! Why? Kex hostel boasts a lively social scene with their own restaurant, full service bar, and entertainment venue.

It is located right in the heart of downtown Reykjavik, Iceland. You’ll be in walking distance from tax free shopping, a stroll along the bay, fresh fish from the harbor, and the infamous Icelandic nightlife.

Want to stay in and have a low key night? Enjoy an evening of jazz at the hostel, accompanied by a pint of local ale and baked Icelandic Dímon cheese with honey and nuts.

When you’re ready to retreat for the night. Head up to your room, either a bunk in a dorm room or a private suite. A bed in a 4 bunk room at Kex Hostel, with linens, private bathroom, and organic, homemade breakfast will run you ~4500 ISK/night in the winter and 7200 ISK in the summer (roughly $34-55/night USD).

Iceland has a lot to offer, even in the winter. Beware of a bed friendly 10am sunrise. Instead of sleeping in, get out and explore the glaciers, waterfalls, and black sand beaches. Along the way, stop at a local spot for some lobster soup, and if you’re daring, fermented shark.
