Stay Here: Maya, Sri Lanka

Tucked in the Sri Lankan village of Aranwella, beside the town’s Buddhist temple, Maya is a chic retreat designed by Niki Fairchild and Pradeep Kodikara. The resort is a renovated walauwa, which is the style of manor houses in Sri Lanka during the 19th and 20th centuries.

Today, Maya is a five suite villa on the property’s estate. It’s one of Sri Lanka’s most talked about boutique hotels, and with good reason. The rooms are beautifully appointed with exquisite design and modern amenities. Outside, guests can enjoy the midnight blue pool that overlooks paddy fields. Three of the suites have private courtyards, and all have access to the pool, veranda, dining area and open air garden pavilion.

Maya is the perfect place to escape on the beautiful island of Sri Lanka. Known for its lush landscapes and pristine beaches, Sri Lanka has just recently started attracting more of a crowd. Travelers that are in-the-know will make Sri Lanka a top travel destination soon, so it’s best to get to this serene locale before everyone discovers this gem.

Visitors to Maya can watch a cricket match, travel to the beaches that line the southern coast, visit the Yala National Park, or simply enjoy the serenity of the estate.
