The Hotel Santa Teresa in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

March 13, 2012 by

The Hotel Santa Teresa is Rio de Janeiro’s newest Design Concept Hotel, considered one of the most gorgeous hotels in South America.

A past coffee plantation mansion, positioned in the most dignified area of Santa Teresa – the artistic and historical heart of Rio de Janeiro – the boutique hotel was restored with enchantment and elegance as an elite reference of Brazilian Tropical Design.

More than an astonishing hotel, the Hotel Santa Teresa offers guests peace-of-mind and safety with tropical gardens, panoramic pools, complete Natura SPA, a lounge bar classified as the most romantic in Rio de Janeiro and Térèze Restaurant with Franco-Brazilian cooking by Chef Damien Montecer.

The adornment and architecture design of the hotel was motivated by the golden ages of coffee and cocoa, in the exploration for refinement and sophistication through the use of gallant and environmental material from the land and culture of Brazil. Burnt cement, Bordeaux or golden slate, red and dark tropical woods, banana tree fiber and other tropical adorning blend with modern design by Sergio Rodrigues, Rock Lane, Studio Vitty, Zemog and Oficina de Agosto is found here.

A storied excursion to the lands and roots of ethnic Brazil, the Xingu and Tupi Guarani Indians, Afro-Brazilian traditions and culture, offerings of Maranhão, St. Jorge Ogum, art work from Pernambuco and handicrafts from Piauí, sacred and mystical art from Bahia and the origins of Rio de Janeiro are home here.

Peaceful, sophisticated, well-lit, each room and suite of the Hotel Santa Teresa offers an exclusive and relaxing ambiance.

The design of each room is exceptional and sumptuous. Some rooms offer bath tubs made of marbled cement, others designed by Studio Vitty in Corian while bathrooms are outfitted with golden slate and Ypê wood floors. Most suites have a splendid veranda in the garden shade with the scent of jasmine, a perfect spot to enjoy a red berry caipirinha while admiring the toucans and marmosets in the palm trees. Other rooms have gorgeous and exclusive views of Guanabara Bay, the city, and the marvelous sun setting into Tijuca mountain.

In every room, art pieces by fabulous Brazilian designers; Sergio Rodrigues, Carassas, Studio Vitty, Zemog, Rock Lane, personalize the contemporary design and natural elements of these spaces.

Tropical Design is present in all the details; the lighting, the contrasts, the natural materials such as wild cotton, natural linen, coconut and banana tree fibers and tropical wood.

The Hotel Santa Teresa has won several awards, including: 101 best hotels of the world – Tatler travel guide 2012; Brazil´s best hotels stay list 2011 – National Geographic; Best hotel in south America – Conde Nast Traveller Hot List 2009; and The panoramic Loft suite, World’s best hotel suite – Wallpaper Magazine.
