The Witchery Sign

The Witchery Restaurant is located at the top of Edinburgh’s historic Royal Mile on the left side of the road as you approach Edinburgh Castle.

It’s close proximity to the castle offers a unique location and over the last three decades has established a reputation for fine Scottish food, wine, and service in a magical setting.

The Witchery

Dining at the Witchery

The Witchery Restaurant is located in a sixteenth-century merchant’s house. Visitors feel as if they are in another time surrounded by rich baroque décor in the Witchery’s original dining room where they can look out onto the Royal Mile while they dine.

Tapestries decorate historic stone walls or ancient oak paneling. Antique candlesticks add to the ambiance as the candlelight dances across the heraldic painted ceilings.

Private Dining in the Secret Garden

The restaurant offers an enclosed garden for private dining, too. Walk down the stone stairs to seating beneath a painted ceiling and French windows opening onto a secluded terrace. The garden is hidden along the historic Old Town by walls that provide seclusion and a fairy tale-like dining experience.

Staying at the Witchery

Getting a Room at the Witchery

Due to the historic nature of the Witchery, it only has nine original rooms and suites. It is often referred to as one of the most romantic places to stay and has even been called “one of the seven wonders of the hotel world” by Cosmopolitan.

It’s a pricey experience at £325 – £360 per suite per night. The price includes a bottle of champagne, mineral water, turn down service, a newspaper, cookies, and breakfast served in your suite each day.

Décor differs from suite to suite but include features such as an extravagantly velvet-draped four-poster bed, a separate sitting room, and paneled dining hall. For details on individual suites, visit their official website.

If you hope stay at the Witchery, make plans well in advance because it is a popular destination for many.
