If you’ve always wanted to see the Lantern Festival in China, but couldn’t see you’re way clear to travel to the Far East, you’re in luck. The Chinese Lantern Festival has come to the States.

It’s happening right now in Dallas, Texas and runs through January 6, 2013.

Enjoy the magical dreamscape created by illuminated myths-come-to-life through colorful lanterns. Along with mythological creatures, other exotic delights include buildings, fabric flora and fauna, and animals including favorites like dinosaurs, pandas, and flamingos.

It’s a spectacular sight as the lanterns light up the night, igniting the lagoon with dazzling reflections.

Old World Handcrafts and Souvenirs

Along with the unique display of lanterns, the Chinese Lantern Festival hosts a number of artists producing unusual old-world handcrafts right before your eyes.

Watch as dragons and scorpions take shape from woven palm leaves, or lick your lips as artists paint with liquid sugar creating rabbits, monkeys and other confectioneries.

Wheelchair and Scooter Friendly

All the lanterns are visible from paved walkways with the exception of three lanterns on the north side of the lagoon where the path is interrupted by a few steps.

However, if you double back and approach from the other direction you can see all the lanterns, but there is still one small section of rough payment between The Mushroom Garden display and the Faces of Peking Opera.

Hours and Admission

The Chinese Lantern Festival comes to life at night and is open every day from 5:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. Tickets can be purchased online or at the entrance. Paid parking ($15) is available near the entrance, and a 50% discount is available for people who use wheelchairs and scooters for medical reasons.

This is an affordable, good time that costs under $20 a person.
