Don’t Miss: The Songkran Festival (Thai New Year) in Thailand

April 4, 2012 by

This month Thailand is celebrating the Songkran festival as the traditional New Year’s Day from 13 to 15 April. It coincides with the New Year of many calendars of South and Southeast Asia. Songkran is a traditional thai New Year festival where people enjoy themselves by throwing water at each other. However the original purpose of throwing water is to give and request for blessing through water.

The most famous Songkran celebrations are in the northern city of Chiang Mai, where it continues for six days and even longer. It has also become a party for foreigners and an additional reason for many to visit Thailand for immersion in another culture.
