Firefly Music Festival Expands to 4 Days: June 19-22

The 2014 Firefly Music Festival will expand to four days this coming year in an effort to alleviate traffic jams. The festival will be held June 19-22 with early entrance granted to early-bird campers on Wednesday night.

For this year’s festival, about 80 acres of trees have been cleared and the areas graded and seeded to accommodate more people. With these changes, the festival will have enough room to host up to 85,000 people and the stage for Firefly.

More than 100 Music Acts

Last year’s Firefly festival offered 74 bands across six stages. This year they’ve expanded the entertainment, too. The 2014 Firefly Festival Operations entertainment venue will include more than 100 music acts across seven stages, but the 2014 lineup will not be announced until sometime after the first of the year.

The main stage will be situated to the northernmost part of the grounds to make room for the new “Forest Stage” which will be added in the woods with two other smaller venues: The Big Break Stage and The Coffehouse Stage.

Festival goers can purchase a new camping package for The Woodlands festival grounds which is located around the Dover International Speedway. The new four day pass allows Wednesday Premier Camping the night before the festival begins, on Thursday, June 19, with a half day of performances in the late afternoon.

For festival goers who purchased pre-sale 3-day passes at the close of last year’s festival, organizers have said they will be upgraded to the new 4-day passes.

The first year the Firefly Festival drew 30,000 people. Last year, the 2013 Firefly Festival drew around 65,000 fans. Organizers have not said what their target crowd size is for 2014, but they are ready to handle 85,000. The one goal they have set is to avoid a repeat of last year’s traffic problems.
