Hilton Program Offers Free Travel for Teachers

March 21, 2013 by

The teaching profession is not known for high salaries. Yet, teachers often sacrifice from their own funds to equip their classrooms with needed materials.

The Hilton HHonors program realizes travel provides a cultural education beneficial in the classroom, and opens an opportunity for 15 teachers to win a chance to travel.

The Hilton HHonors loyalty program has launched a competition that will pay for 15 teachers to travel to places they teach about through an awards program known as Teacher Treks.

How the Hilton HHonors Competition Works

This year, the Hilton HHonors program is giving teachers the opportunity to experience the lessons they teach first-hand through Teacher Treks. This grant program will award 15 winners “the cultural excursion of a lifetime.”

To accomplish this, the Hilton Company has hooked up with the Institute of International Education. Teachers who teach grades K-12 in the United States and Puerto Rico are eligible to enter.

The Hilton Hhonors program is a loyalty program of Hilton Worldwide that believes travel fosters a deeper understanding between countries and has the power to bring people together.

This year the competition celebrates culture by giving winning teachers opportunities to experience diversified cultures firsthand.

Teacher Treks Award Program

Teacher Treks gives teachers a chance to win the opportunity to travel via an essay submission. The essay should include how they would share what they learn from the trip with their students. Fifteen grants will be awarded to teachers who are chosen through a combination of public votes and an expert panel.

Winners will have the opportunity to travel to their proposed destination (valued at $6,000) over the 2013 summer break. As an added bonus, the winning teachers’ schools will also receive a $2,500 donation to be used for cultural activities.

Fifteen runners-up will also be awarded $2,500 for their schools. From all the submissions, one winner will be chosen randomly to win a cultural excursion for their entire classroom.

The competition is a great opportunity for teachers to share their vision and inspiration in 300-600 word essay form. Submissions will also include a photo and letter of recommendation from the principal of their school.

Winners will be announced in May!

That’s a great sentiment from Hilton and a terrific offer for teachers!

I wonder if any of them will decide they need to teach their students about the warm beaches of Hawaii? ;)
