The Food Network South Beach Wine and Food Festival has grown to become a premiere culinary event.
This year’s event will be sponsored by Omaha Steaks, and their Vice President, Todd Simon has said they “…look forward to sharing the great taste of Omaha Steaks with the guests attending The Q.”
12th Year for South Beach Wine and Food Festival
The South Beach Wine and Food Festival started back in 1997 as a one-day festival known as the Florida Extravaganza. For the first five years, it featured wines from national and international wineries along with foods provided by local restaurants.
In these early years the festival was held at FIU’s Biscayne Bay Campus and included chefs working with FIU’s School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. In 2002 the event was renamed South Beach Wine and Food Festival and was moved to South Beach.
It changed from a one day festival to an event that included a series of dinners, seminars, wine tasting, and a live auction.
The venue has continued to evolve since then, and includes celebrities and well-known sponsors, but the proceeds still support the educational programs at Florida International University’s Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management.
Paula Deen and Sons and Other Personalities
This year’s South Beach Wine and Food Festival offers up plenty of sunshine, and opportunities to rub elbows with guest chefs like Curtis Stone, and Paula Deen and Sons. Among the wine and beer tasting seminars and events, the Garden to Glass hosted by Emerill Lagassee will feature Bar Lab Cocktails and My Ceviche.
The schedule offers a large selection of things to do and see, and the kids are not forgotten. A seminar presented by Florida Blue and sponsored by Carnival featuring Kellogg’s Kidz Kitchen offers “Fun and Fit as a Family” on February 23-24.
