Dublin Goes Green

St. Patrick’s Day is celebrated by the Irish and the Irish-at-heart around the world on March 17 each year. For an authentic St. Patrick’s Day experience, there’s no better place to celebrate than Dublin, the birth place of this festive holiday.

While it all started as an Irish religious feast day in honor of the country’s patron saint, today Dublin marks the day with an international festival that celebrates Irish culture with parades, dancing, special foods and a whole lot of green for an entire weekend.

The 2014 St. Patrick’s Day celebrations start the weekend of March 14, when Dublin will be aglow with green as some of Dublin’s most iconic buildings “Go Green.”

The St. Patrick’s Festival has grown into a major international festival and this year, the dates will run from Friday, March 14 to Monday the 17th. Along with greening of the city, other activities festival goers can expect to enjoy include fairs, walking tours, treasure hunts, plenty of Guinness at the pubs, and more.

It’s interesting to note that originally, because St. Patrick’s Day was a religious holiday, all the pubs were closed for the day, but in 1970 it was changed to a national holiday and ever since, the taps flow freely as celebrants experience the day.
