A Variety of Day Trips from Los Angeles

Day trips from Los Angeles offer something for everyone. Here are a handful to consider:

  • Point Magu State Park: Point Magu offers mountain biking trails, hiking trails and five miles of pristine beach to visitors. Depending on the time of year, summer can be hot and humid, but most of the time this scenic day trip offers some relief with a sea breeze. Don’t forget to bring your camera.
  • Griffith Park: Griffith Park hosts a wealth of activities and attractions. Visit the Griffith Observatory, the L.A. Zoo, or get out and rub elbows with nature. The park offers hiking, horseback riding, swimming and more. Pack up a picnic lunch and plan to spend the day.
  • Getty Center: The Getty Center is a popular destination for more than a million people each year. Walk through the Central Garden, stop by the Research Library at the Getty Research Institute, or enjoy the J. Paul Getty Museum’s collection of Western art. Admission to the center is free.
  • Will Rogers State Park: Visit this historic location and take a tour of the Ranch House Will Rogers once owned or enjoy a three-mile hike to Inspiration Point. Mountain bikers and equestrians are also invited to tackle the Backbone Trail which can take you all the way to Point Magu.
  • Santa Monica Pier: The Santa Monica Pier has offered hours of fun to visitors for more than a hundred years. Whether you plan to fish, ride the attractions, bike, beach, or take a tour, there’s plenty of fun to fill your day.

Day trips are a great way to learn about and experience more of the area where you live. Some day trips are historical and others are touristy type destinations, but they are a great way to have fun and not spend a lot of money on gas.
