The Euganean hills in Italy offer a hiking paradise with 16 designated trails. The trails are supervised by the National Park Service and vary in levels of difficulty. It offers an ideal way to take in the beauty of nature for hikers and cyclists.

The hills were formed by volcanic eruptions long ago, and even the highest point, Monte Venda, is manageable for most hikers at 601 meters.


Popular Hiking Trails in the Euganean Hills

The Euganean hills offers various hills and ridges to explore as you follow the various trails. This region features stunning scenery that’s relaxing and yet exhilarating.

Here is a list of some of the most popular hiking trails:

  • Abano Terme: The area around the spa town of Abano Terme provides a nice selection of hikes of varying duration. If you like, you can take a two-hour hike to nearby Monte Rosso (medium difficulty), or shorter treks to the neighboring villages of Battaglia Terme or Galzignano Terme.
  • Arqua Petrarca: The Arqua Petrarca include 3 mountains and 2 hiking trails. For either of these trails you need to be in good shape as they require endurance.
  • Galzignano Terme: Galzignano Terme is one of four main thermal spas located in the Euganean hills and it’s ideally located at the center of this gorgeous hiking region. Surrounding hills include Monte delle Basse, the Monte Gallo, and Monte delle Cave. Choose between two different trails that take you to the Monte Venda and past the Olivetani monastery.
  • Tattaglia Terme: Located at the eastern edge of the Euganean hills, Tattaglia Terme provides a beautiful horseshoe shaped trail for hikers on the Monte Croce which is about a 3-hour walk. Hikers can also take advantage of a number of other hiking options in the nearby towns of Arquà Petrarca and Galzignano Terme.

Weekends the Busiest

Euganean hills in Italy is also known for its wineries and thermal spas. It makes a great destination for those who want to relax after a long hike. Weekends are popular with many hikers, so weekdays are best for those who want to enjoy a less crowded walk through the Euganean hills.
