While the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade has become a tradition in many households, they have also celebrated another tradition — the 4th of July. For the last 36 years they have lit up the NYC skyline with fireworks.

This year, the 37th Macy’s 4th of July show is inspired and directed by Grammy-winning artist Usher. This display of patriotic firepower will include more than 40,000 fireworks set to light up the sky to a 25 minute score.

37th Annual Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks

This year’s Macy’s fireworks will be like none other. It’s designed to captivate audiences along the Hudson River and on TV screens across the country. Since the first fireworks show in 1976, Macy’s fireworks display has grown in scale and artistry.

With collaboration with Usher, Macy’s is taking this year’s show to the next level making it the largest show in America. Usher has said that “As an artist, it’s important that I expand creatively into new areas. Working on the score and fireworks design has been a great experience that’s allowed me to share my voice in a new way.”

He’s excited and can’t wait to surprise the audience with this Independence Day party which is being called, “It Begins with a Spark.”

Usher has provided visual design cues for the choreographed pyrotechnics.

Musical Score

The fireworks display will be accompanied by a musical score highlighting Usher’s musical tastes that reflect a blend of influences that span decades of music.

The audience can expect to hear current hits by artists including Rihanna, Kelly Clarkson, Avicii, and Swedish House Mafia along with classic artists Frank Sinatra, Sam Cooke, and Jimi Hendrix. Along with that, the crowd can expect patriotic Americana hits in the mix, too, from God Bless America to The Star Spangled Banner.

Usher has also provided visual design cues, inspiration and direction for the choreographed pyrotechnics. Expect to see new, never-before-seen effects, shapes and colors paint the sky with a 26-minute synchronized display.

The broadcast of Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular will capture all the explosive glory of the pyrotechnics, but will also feature performances from Mariah Carey, Tim McGraw, and a host of other hot musical acts. For more information check Macy’s official website.
