A day trip on the Glacier Express offers a unique view of untouched Switzerland mountains as it cuts across pristine mountain landscapes, deep gorges, 91 tunnels, and almost 300 bridges.
This famous railway travels from Zermatt to Davos or St. Moritz in about seven hours
Glacier Express Amenities
Passengers aboard the Glacier Express Premium trains enjoy meals served at their seats or they can choose to eat in the dining cars. For those traveling in standard trains, meals are only served in the dining cars where angle-stemmed wine glasses are less likely to spill during steep climbs.
Meals are freshly prepared in the on-board kitchen and include an appetizer, main course, and dessert. If you prefer, you can grab a pre-made boxed lunch, salad, or hot and cold beverages from the rail-bar cart.
Guided Tour
Personal earphones are available to provide a commentary that highlights interesting sights along the spectacular trans-Alpine route. Commentaries are available in English, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, or Italian.
Bring Your Camera
While you’re on the train, have your camera ready. You’ll be riding through countryside too beautiful for words as the train carries passengers across thundering mountain streams, and past towering rock walls.
Destinations
The Glacier Express offers plenty to do at both ends of the journey:
St. Moritz: St. Moritz is a mountain village popular with hikers and skiers. It offers mountain restaurants, lodges, mountaineering schools, and even provides wheelchair-accessible hikes.
Other activities to enjoy in St. Moritz include mountain biking, golf, and a number of excursions. It’s a beautiful setting worth exploring and a popular destination among the rich and famous.
Zermatt: Zermatt is probably most known as the home of the most photographed mountain in the world—The Matterhorn. This family friendly destination offers plenty to do for everyone year round. Winter fun includes ice skating, tobogganing, and skiing.
Slowest Express Train
It’s funny that they call this train the Glacier “Express” because it’s not known for speed. Instead, it offers a leisurely trip through the Swiss Alps, offering breathtaking backdrops and exquisite on-board service.
