This past winter was long and harsh across the country, and according to a recent survey by TripAdvisor and the research firm Ipsos, it looks like people are ready to make up for it. More people plan to hit the road this summer than last year, and the top three destinations all have something different to offer.

Myrtle Beach

Jointly known as the Grand Strand, the Myrtle Beach, S.C. area features 60 miles of South Carolina coast which includes Myrtle Beach, North Myrtle Beach, South Strand, and Litchfield and Pawleys Island.

Myrtle Beach itself is the heart of Grand Stand and the number one summer destination this year. It offers major attractions that offer fun for the whole family including the Myrtle Beach Boardwalk, the Family Kingdom Amusement Park, Myrtle Waves waterpark, the Carolina Opry and the Market Common.

Las Vegas

Summer is the perfect time to plan a visit to Las Vegas with a nice selection of air and hotel packages that include things like show and tour tickets. Depending on your choice of hotel, some packages also include things like a couple of free meals at the buffet, too.

Along with the casinos and shows, those seeking a little more adventure can enjoy a roller coaster or take a swim with the sharks in the Shark Reef Aquarium at Mandalay Bay. There’s no cages; just you and more than 30 sharks!

If you prefer something above water, you’ll want to check out the Voodoo Zipline that lets you zip from one hotel tower to another at the Rio!

New York City

New York City offers a wide range of things to do. To take full advantage of your visit, check into getting a New York Pass.

It’s a “smart card” that looks like a credit card which lets you visit more than 80 New York tourist attractions cash free. Once you’ve bought the New York Pass you don’t have to pay to get into any of the attractions covered by the pass, plus it allows you to skip long lines at some of the busiest attractions.

No matter where you plan to go for your summer getaway, plan ahead. Early reservations often present opportunities to save extra on your vacation plans.

New York City in the summer can get unbearably hot, and that’s when the residents are at their crankiest if they can’t escape on the weekends. I much prefer it in the early fall or late spring. But Myrtle Beach sounds perfect right about now!
