Multnomah Falls

Multnomah Falls is a natural wonder that has drawn visitors to the area for decades. The upper fall plunges 542 to the lower fall at 69 feet and makes this spectacular waterfall the highest in the State of Oregon and the second highest in the nation.

Generally, the falls are supplied by natural underground springs that originate on Larch Mountain, but in the spring, melting snow increases the flow of the falls to a roar. Cross the historic Benson Bridge constructed in 1914, and follow the paved road to the viewing platform to enjoy the spectacular view.

Hiking Multnomah Falls

The Falls also offers hikers a variety of options. The quarter-mile hike to Benson Bridge is probably the most popular.

For those who have the time and energy, they can continue the 1.1- trek to the viewing platform. And for those who are ready to see more than the Falls, the trail connects to several other gorge trails which accommodate different skill levels.

For those interested in learning more, the Forest Service Interpretive Center located at the Lodge has complete details on hand including maps of the Columbia River Gorge which can be purchased online or onsite at the Multnomah Falls Lodge gift shop.

Approximately 2.5 million visitors come to see the Falls each year, ranking Multnomah Falls Oregon’s most visited natural attraction. Nearby accommodations include the Brickhaven Bed and Breakfast, Bridal Veil Bed & Breakfast, Best Western Columbia Inn, and Skamonia Lodge.
