Wolkenkratzer Festival: May 25-26

May 16, 2013 by

FrankfurtFrankfurt has more skyscrapers than any other European city and the Frankfurt Skyscraper Fest, or Wolkenkratzer Festival as it’s known in Germany, is one way they celebrate that bit of trivia.

After a six-year break from the event, the Frankfurt Skyscraper Fest will be held again this May 25-26, and this year will open the doors to 18 high-rise buildings. Admission is free, but you do need free tickets for visiting the skyscrapers and activities associated with them.

Admission is limited with only 80,000 tickets allocated for high-rise access, but even those who don’t get a ticket will be able to get off the ground aboard cranes, platforms, and bucket lifts found around the city to watch vertical football games and other events.

Skyscraper Fireworks

The “Night of the skyscraper” in downtown Frankfurt offers fireworks and a line of national and international stars on stages at various locations as fireworks light up the skyscraper skyline.

The 2013 show starts with British singer Paul Potts who has sold more than 3 million records in Germany. Best locations to hear the show and see the fireworks include the Opera Square, Goeth Square, Rossmarkt, and the main guard. The entire fireworks show, with music, will be broadcast live on radio.

Rain or Shine the Skyscraper Festival Goes On

Attractions are set up to do the best possible job at protecting crowds from rain, but rain or shine, the Skyscraper Festival will go on. In the event delays do occur, short-term tickets lose their validity.
