4 Best Restaurants in Philadelphia, PA

June 6, 2012 by

The battle for culinary prestige in Philadelphia is greater than ever, with more top chefs opening eateries in the City of Brotherly Love than ever before. World-renowned chefs like Stephen Starr, Eric Ripert, Jennifer Carroll, Jose Garces, Walter Staib, Marcie Turney, Marc Vetri and more own and operate some of the top restaurants in the city.

With all of these choices, it’s hard to choose a top four list, but winners must be named.

1. City Tavern. Once a touristy restaurant with mediocre food, Chef Walter Staib has recreated City Tavern’s menu and brought new life to the dishes. Influenced by his roots in the Black Forest and love for classic and rich ingredients, Staib has once again made City Tavern a contender for top restaurant in the city.

2. Amada. Chef Jose Garces’ Amada consistently ranks among the top restaurants in Philadelphia with authentic Spanish tapas and a warm, inviting atmosphere. If Amada is not your speed, Garces has a firm grip on the Latin scene in Philly with other eateries like Chifa, Distrito and Tinto.

3. Buddakan. Stephan Starr’s Buddakan is a favorite among many who dine under the watchful eye of the 10 foot tall candle-laden Buddha that commands the attention of the main dining room. Dishes are modern Asian cuisine with a touch of whimsy.

4. Lolita. Philadelphia has no shortage of BYOB’s, but Lolita stands proud among them as a contender for best restaurant in the city. Chefs Marcie Turney and Valerie Safran serve up flavorful Mexican inspired food to an eager crowd of diners in Midtown Village.
