Colorado Fried Chicken

After a long day on the slopes at Crested Butte Mountain, you’ll be craving something warm and soothing to refuel you for the next day on the mountain. Go no further than 2nd street.

The Slogar, located in the center of town, resides in an old Victorian-esque building from the 1800’s. They offer a fixed priced menu of skillet fried chicken or steak with a flavor that rivals Grandmas’s southern cooking.

With your meal, you’ll enjoy endless portions of tangy coleslaw, potato mashers, and gravy. Of course, no comfort meal is complete with the most fluffy buttermilk biscuits with fresh fruit preserves and whipped butter.

If you happen to have room in your belly, the ice cream is home-churned and goes perfectly with the fresh apple pie, made with apples from the western slope of Colorado.

The price is reasonable ($16 for adults, $6 for children), and the atmosphere is friendly. It’s a great place for a quiet night or a family dinner.

They offer a full service bar with wine and spirits. Reservations recommended.
