However, for those who follow a gluten-free diet for health reasons, it can be a little tricky finding gluten-free restaurants in NYC unless you know where to look. Locations in New York City aren’t many, but the gluten-free foods available do offer selections from various ethnic palates.

New York Comfort Food

For starts, you might want to visit Friedman’s Lunch. This restaurant is open for breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and offers some gluten-free options that may surprise you. This is one hot spot where you can order a sandwich and actually eat the bread!

Gluten-Free Italian

Bistango Ristorante is a favorite Manhattan dining choice for those in the mood for Italian. This eating establishment has been pleasing patrons since 1988, and in 2006 added gluten-free dishes to its menu.

They even include a number of stuffed pasta dishes, bread served with olive oil and garlic, and desserts like Red Velvet Cake all sans gluten! Atmosphere and dress is casual and makes everyone feel welcome.

Another Italian favorite for those ready to indulge in Italian is the Risotteria restaurant located on Bleecker Street between 6th and 7th Avenues. From breadsticks to apple pie, this is a gluten-free experience you’ll never forget.

They even have gluten-free beer for those who wish to imbibe. They also cater to vegetarians and those restricted to a dairy-free diet. Be sure to stop in on Tuesdays when they offer a gluten-free pasta menu!

If you’re ready to spice things up a bit with some Mexican food, Rosa Mexicano offers a gluten-free lunch menu¬†and dinner menu. The menu offers variety, from crunch corn tacos, to ribs, and salads. They also host a Happy Hour with a half-off drinks menu on Monday-Friday from 4:00-7:00 pm., in the bar area.

Before you head out to these or any restaurants, give them a call and double check whether or not they are still offering gluten-free dishes, and ask how their dishes are prepared, if cross contamination is a concern.
