Le Gavroche

Le Gavroche is a London restaurant started by brothers Albert and Michel Roux in 1967. They spent their life savings and took out loans to see their dream come to fruition. When they opened their doors the menu was not cheap, but it offered dishes that previously could only be found in France.

The ground-opening was attended by notables such as Charlie Chapman, Eva Gardner, and Robert Redford. Since then, Le Gavroche has remained one of London’s most respected restaurants with numerous awards garnered along the way. In fact, it was the first UK restaurant to be awarded one, two, and three Michelin stars.

Michel Roux, Jr. is probably best known in the U.S. as the Michelin two-star chef from his role as a judge on MasterChef: The Professionals. He started in the business by working for his father and uncle at Le Gavroche and the Waterside Inn.

Today, he can almost always be found in the kitchen of Le Gavroche which explains the quality of the food and service.

The Le Gavroche Experience

When you arrive at Le Gavroche it looks like a regular red brick house. The main restaurant is located in the basement of the house, but it’s unlike any other basement. Everything is elegant.

If you can’t decide what to eat, consider the Menu Exceptionnel which is their 9 courses tasting menu which starts out with a cheese souffl√© cooked in double cream and is a journey in tastes and textures to please any palate.
