How It Started

Maxine’s Chicken and Waffles is a family run business which was started to honor a beloved grandmother and mother by the name of Maxine Redmond who worked as a cook at St. Francis Hospital for 30 years while raising a large family.

During those years of necessity, she developed delicious culinary talents that let her feed her family of 10 kids on a budget and the apprentice by her side was her oldest daughter Donniece.

The tight-knit family lived in a four-room house with parents who worked opposite shifts to be sure someone was home with the kids. In 2007, Maxine’s children and grandchildren joined together to establish a restaurant which honored Maxine and the comfort that accompanied her food.

Maxine’s Chicken and Waffles is the culmination of the family’s efforts, ideals, and Maxine’s recipes. Their mission is to serve up “taste and love in every bite” with dishes created from fresh ingredients and offered at affordable prices. The result is a restaurant that makes patrons feel like they are at Grandma’s house.

What the Menu Offers

The menu offers a nice selection including Maxine’s famous chicken and waffles which includes three jumbo chicken wings and one of their signature waffles. The Max waffler is another favorite comprised of two waffle sandwiches served with a fried egg topped with American cheese, turkey bacon or sausage and served with grits or potatoes.

For those looking for something other than waffle-inspired meals, they have dishes like catfish dinners, pan fried chicken, Bar-B-Que chicken, meals made just for kids, and a list of daily specials worth checking out, too.

After dinner choose one of the seasonal cobblers, cakes, or pies as a sweet way to complete your Maxine’s Chicken and Waffles experience. It’s one of those experiences you don’t want to miss.
