For chocolate lovers visiting the San Francisco area, the Dandelion Chocolate Factory and Café is a small café that offers delectable chocolate treats with big taste.
It’s a bean-to-bar chocolate factory located in the Mission District and a must-visit for chocoholics. The café located at the front of the factory serves hot chocolates, mochas, and other chocolate confectioneries.
Molded by Hand
Dandelion Chocolate is roasted, cracked, sorted, winnowed, ground and tempered in small batches. The chocolate is then molded by hand and packaged. This process allows the individual flavors to deliver the nuances of each bean to the taste buds.
The Dandelion Chocolate Café
The Dandelion Chocolate Café’s quaint brick walls and sleek finishing touches are wrapped in the aroma of baked goods and chocolate. When you walk in the door, your mouth will water; and their products will not let you down.
A variety of cacao bean samples are available at the door for sampling. For chocolate lovers, it’s fun just to try beans from different locations to taste the difference. Like wine and coffee, different beans offer different flavors.
The Dandelion’s Chocolate Café’s hot chocolate offers a chance to experience a European drinking chocolate. It’s thick, rich, and not too sweet. Complementary marshmallows are available for those who want them.
Currently the Dandelion Chocolate Factory only makes dark chocolate, but the café carries other treats such as caramelized almonds, and chocolate covered lavender shortbread.
Tour the Dandelion Chocolate Factory
Café costumers can also tour the factory area at the back to see the craftwork and care involved in delivering this chocolate to the public. Chocolate lovers who visit the facility quickly understand that Dandelion Chocolate is a gift to the world from people who love chocolate, too.
Owners Todd and Cam create their chocolate with 70% cacao beans, and 30% cane sugar. They don’t add preservatives or emulsifiers so the true flavor of the cacao is what their customers enjoy.
If you’re looking for souvenirs or gifts to carry home for friends, buy some chocolate bars, shortbread or other treats. It’s a delicious way to share your vacation experience with others.
