Packages Available

If you’re itching to get on the slopes and thinking of testing your skills in Alaska, a variety of packages are available for people thinking about an Alaskan heli skiing trip.

Some, like the Chugach Powder Guides, even include a new “Ultimate Flex Package” which is a refund program with built-in flexibility that takes into consideration cancellations due to weather, backup options, etc. and allows you to roll over your reservations to the following year when circumstances dictate.

Various heli companies offer packages that span 5-day, 7-day, full-day, and weekend combo packages. It’s best to contact the heli skiing company and talk specifics with them, and don’t forget to ask them about specials, and cancellation policies.

Who to Call

There are a number of heli operations ready to assist you in Alaska. This short list can help you get started as you make those vacation plans:

  • Girdwood: (Runs January to April) Chugach Mountain Range. Girdwood is the birthplace of helicopter skiing in Alaska. Back then it was used more for scouting for a resort location and by workers responsible for building lift towers. My how things have changed since then!
  • Valdez Heli-Ski Guides: This company has been in the heli-ski business for 20 years and is located in an area with tall mountains and a reputation for better weather.
  • Alaska Powder Descents: Based in Juneau, Alaska. World class terrain in both the Chilkat Mountains and the coast.

Training Courses Available

For those whose skills aren’t up to getting dropped in the middle of nowhere, training courses are available. In fact, classes are available for all levels of skiers and for those interested in snowboarding.

If you’re interested, professional training courses are available for small groups through the Alaska Mountain Guides and Climbing School. Inc.

Make Reservations Early

If you hope to hire a helicopter and guide to take you out on the slopes in Alaska, make reservations now. This adventure in skiing is gaining in popularity. You don’t want to miss out because you put off a call!
