Mophie PowerstationLooking for a gift idea for the traveler in your life? The Juice Pack Powerstation by Mophie is an elegantly designed energy source to help keep phones and tablets charged while on the run.

It’s attractive soft-touch exterior is rimmed with a silver band around the edge reminiscent of the iPhone 4/4S case. It comes in a convenient 2.3 x 4.1 x 5 inch size and weighs just 4.3 ounces so it’s easy to carry without weighing your down.

Pros of the Mophie Juice Pack Powerstation

The Mophie Juice Pack is equipped with full-size and micro USB ports on the top, and features a single button on the side which lights green LED lights to show the battery’s stored charge. The smaller port is used to charge the powerstation, while the full size USP is used to charge your devices.

It is fully compatible with every iPhone and iPod touch and can provide hours of charge to an iPad (but doesn’t provide a complete charge to the iPad). This powerstation offers smart battery technology which knows how much power your device requires and delivers high-output with charging speeds of 500mA, 1A, or 2.1A depending on what device you have connected.

Cons of the Juice Pack

While the Mophie Powerstation is attractive and lightweight, it doesn’t come with a power adaptor, so it is limited to charging by plugging in to a PC or using an existing USB power adapter. That limits it to charging from any high-current USB port.

Lower current ports available on some computers, as well as USB ports on keyboards and hubs, may not effectively charge the powerstation. The other drawback with this powerstation is that it does not have pass-through capability so you’ll need to charge the powerstation separately from other devices.

Mophie’s powerstation has been designed to charge a variety of USB devices but was created specifically with smartphones and tablets in mind. They have completed extensive testing on a variety of other products for compatibility as well and offer a compatibility chart on their website.

Or you could always travel without electronics! Is that crazy thinking this day in age? Go out and enjoy what’s out there, without documenting it or checking your emails and texts. It’s called a “vacation” for a reason.
