The Rough-&-Tumble Hobo Knife from KA-BAR

August 16, 2012 by

It’s not often we find ourselves in the middle of nowhere with only our hands to help us eat, but on the rare occasion when such a thing happens, we have to admit the subject of today’s post would truly come in handy.

The 3-in-1 utensil kit from KA-BAR — commonly referred to as the “hobo knife” for its rough-and-tumble, on-the-go versatility — features a fork, knife and spoon all in one utensil, neatly tucked into a nylon carrying case for easy transport.

While it’s clear that this handy little tool would never make it into an airplane seat, and for good reason, its undeniable convenience makes it a must-have for the wilder side of globetrotting, and could ostensibly make its way around the world as long as it remains neatly closed and tucked into its case — inside a checked bag.

While we wouldn’t exactly recommend busting this puppy out over dinner at, say, someone’s personal residence, it could definitely be a lifesaver when camping or traveling to remote locales where self-sufficiency is key in terms of more… er, primal… culinary pursuits.

Although there’s no proper way to lay it across your plate to signify you’re through with a meal, we’re guessing it’s mainly to be used in situations where etiquette need not apply. ¬†Either way, bon appetit and happy travels.

You didn’t happen to mention it’s price or where you could buy one in stores.

Hi Penny! The brand name, KA-BAR, is linked to the website in the second paragraph and photo credit, but it might be kind of hard to see – sorry about that. The kit is available for $28 at
