Trakdot Supposed to Work Like GPS for Your Luggage

May 6, 2015 by

Traveling can be a little stressful. It gets you out of your routine and you have to plan ahead so you have everything you need from sunscreen to nail clippers. If you forget something, it’s not usually a big deal because you can buy it at your destination, but when your luggage goes missing that’s another story.

But now there are gadgets designed to help you track your luggage with wireless Bluetooth technology like the Takdot device. However, there are a couple of things you should know before making the purchase.

Annual Trakdot Subscription

For those who travel often, the Trakdot is worth the $50 plus subscription if it works. (First year subscription is free). The thing is it can be a handy gadget that works like a GPS tracker does in your car except many users complain that the battery life doesn’t last for international flights.

Once they get this bug fixed, this device will surpass the technology the airlines still use which is an older system that depends on bar codes scanned into the system along the way.

The Trakdot system uses mobile telephone signals to track your luggage with a device that actually goes inside your luggage. It then uses cell towers to identify the location of the luggage, which is why battery life is an issue on longer flights.

When it is out of range, it will go into sleep mode, but as long as it is charged and has a signal, you’ll be able to use your smart phone to figure out whether the bag has made it to the same destination as you.

How to Use

To use the Trakdot device, set it up and just place it into your suitcase. Once setup, the device will send you an email to let you know it has arrived at the airport and subsequent messages will be sent when you reach your various destinations.

Another Option

If you’re looking for something a little less complicated, the Royce Leather Wallet and Luggage GPS Tracker has simple instructions and a mobile application that provides the last known location of your luggage.

It is compatible with Android 4.4 and later, iPhone 4s and later, and iPad 3rd generation and later. It comes with already installed batteries, the Bluetooth 4.0 compatible tracker, a free mobile application, and it costs less than the Trakdot.
