Hotel Alternative: Vacation Rentals

July 19, 2012 by

Vacation rentals give travelers a new way to stay when exploring new locations around the world. Relatively new to the scene and gaining popularity, vacation rentals are properties that are most commonly owned by one individual and rented out to travelers for a short-term or long-term stay.

A vacation rental could also be owned by a rental company, or managed by a rental company. Whatever the case, vacation rentals are available around the world in top cities, and often times offer you more space and privacy than a hotel for a comparable price.

In fact, many vacation rentals will end up being less expensive than a hotel, especially if you are booking for more than just a few days. Choices for vacation rentals can range from a lakeside cabin to a downtown condo, and anything in between.

Many travelers prefer staying in unique and comfortable accommodations rather than cookie-cutter hotel rooms, and vacation rentals provide just that. Most times, you’ll get a full kitchen, living room, bathroom and bedroom as a minimum. Those needing more space can opt for a vacation rental with multiple bedrooms, bathrooms and other great amenities like a pool or game room for the kids.

Sites like HomeAway.com and VRBO.com are the frontrunners in the vacation rental sector, but more and more websites are popping up listing vacation rentals across the globe. Simply do an Internet search for your desired destination and vacation rentals in that area to see what turns up.

If you don’t mind skipping the concierge, front desk check-in and standard hotel amenities, a vacation rental could be a great option when traveling on a budget while still getting great accommodations, privacy and space.
