Mount Rushmore History

Mount Rushmore is a monument that celebrates the lives of four famous presidents chosen to represent freedom of the United States. The faces from left to right include George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Theodore Roosevelt, and Abraham Lincoln.

The original conception was to include famous Western figures like Buffalo Bill Cody, but the sculptor, Gutzon Borglum, changed the minds of those involved to include the presidents.

  1. I am so glad you posted this. One of my daughters would love to see Mount Rushmore, but I had no idea what type of activities and lodging there are in the area. This might be a great summer vacation!
