Variety of Whitewater Fun
The center offers a variety of ways to have fun on the water with one of the most popular being white water rafting.
Rafting experiences offered are crafted to deliver the excitement of world-class whitewater but also more relaxed family rafting, and more extreme rodeo rafting trips.
Age restrictions for kids apply depending on your rafting choice, but there is something available for kids eight and older as long as they are comfortable with getting wet and understand the potential of coming out of their boat.
For those who want to relax a little, flatwater kayaking offers a great way to take in nature at a slower pace, while stand up paddleboarding is a different type of challenge. Be sure to check their website for all your options.
Climbing, Repelling, Jumping and More
For those who aren’t ready to get wet, the U.S. National Whitewater Center in Charlotte also offers plenty to do on land and above the land. They feature one of the largest outdoor climbing walls in the south with roped climbs reaching to 30 feet that are designed with all skill levels in mind.
Many of the climbing activities are appropriate for beginners and a great way to introduce kids to the sport.
The center also offers a number of adventure courses created above the ground with ropes, plank bridges, and more. These aerial obstacle courses offer a thrill among the tree tops for families and kids of all ages.
If you choose the circuit of sky bridges known as the Canyon Crossing, there are five different aerial challenges to take you across the canyon, and once you make it across, you’ll make the return trip above the gorge on a 250-ft. zip-line.
Weight is a qualifier for these activities with a minimum weight of 45. Check individual activities for specifics.
The center is a great opportunity to enjoy nature and offers a dose of adrenaline rush at the same time. They also offer canopy tours along the Catawba River and portions of the Historic Tuckaseegee Ford and Trail, and trails for hiking, mountain biking, and running.
