City Walks with Kids

One of the great joys of travel is researching and planning your trips beforehand. And City Walks with Kids is an inspired way to share that joy with the littlest members of your family. An offshoot of the popular City Walks decks from Chronicle Books, City Walks with Kids aims to get the whole family involved in travel planning.

Each deck contains 50 cards with different walking adventures, from one-stop destinations like museums to longer treks around a particular neighborhood. The front of the card shows a basic illustrated map of the area, plus public transportation information and web and phone contacts for key attractions; the back gives a pithy explanation of what you’ll see.

All focus on attractions and details that make the itinerary most interesting to kids, with additional details like where to find kid-friendly restaurants. With so many walks to choose from, the sets are useful for both tourists looking to explore off the beaten path and locals hoping to discover something new.

For the littlest kids, the deck of tour cards is a travel toy in itself  — toddlers and preschoolers will love flipping through the cards to choose their favorite illustrations. Bigger kids can use the cards to choose the activities that they consider a “must-see” for their trip. And if you really want to make things interesting, try pulling one or more cards at random for a surprise adventure.

Current titles include London, Paris, New York, San Francisco, and Washington, DC.
