If you and the family are heading to northern Illinois, there are some kid friendly restaurants in the Chicago area that are worth a visit. The following list offers ideas that provide something unique and memorable for the whole family.
The Original Choo-Choo
The Choo-Choo is a diner-style restaurant that delivers food by train to those sitting at the counter on stools. Food for those sitting in booths lining the windowed walls is also delivered by the train, but servers bring it to the table.
This restaurant has been a popular place to eat since it opened in 1951. It’s not a big place, nor fancy, and can get crowded at lunch time, so it’s best to plan around those times.
Nibbles Play Café
Another kid-friendly restaurant in the suburbs north of Chicago is Nibbles Play Café. This café is fun for the kids, but was actually created with parents, grandparents and other caregivers in mind.
They offer free wi-fi and plenty of room to read or relax while the kids burn off some of that pent up energy in the various indoor play areas. They also offer children’s activities including board games.
Rock ‘n Roll McDonalds
The Rock ‘N Roll McDonalds is situated on the fringe of Downtown Chicago. Kids can enjoy standard McDonalds fare, while the family enjoys looking at memorabilia from decades past. This two story McDonalds is located across the street from the Hard Rock Café.
The Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor
If you’re in the mood for something sweet, the Brown Cow Ice Cream Parlor serves up homemade delights including root beer, pies, cakes, ice cream, and for the grownups, coffee drinks. You’ll find this sweet shop in Forest Park.
Along with the restaurants listed here, you’ll find plenty of the typical kid-friendly fast food joints, but these offer a little something extra. If you do go the fast food route, look for a Vienna beef Chicago dog on the menu. Bon appetite.
