Off the Radar Playground: Black Hills South Dakota

September 14, 2013 by

Looking to plan a family vacation? Looking for somewhere a little less crowded than Yellowstone, but just as breathtaking? Look no further than the Black Hills, South Dakota.

This mountain range in the Great Plains is home to six national parks, including the Badlands National Park, scenic byways, vast landscapes, old west wildlife, and plenty of trails and landmarks to keep you busy.

There is fun for all ages here, and it’s still quite off the radar, meaning less crowds, and often cheaper prices.

When you visit, plan to camp in the Badlands, falling asleep to the wind rustling around in the plains, or opt for a cozy cabin, overlooking the ponderosa hills.

Entertain the kids with staged old west shootouts, a helicopter tour, zip-lining and cave tours.

Don’t miss out on the sensational foods at Carver’s Cafe. Here, at the base of Mt. Rushmore, you’ll dine with the presidents while enjoying South Dakota specialties.

For some superb recommended itineraries, visit here, and start planning your wild west adventure.
