Beach toys

Looking forward to that beach vacation with the kids? Make sure to pack everything to make your fun in the sun all you hope it will be with this packing list for the beach.

Playing at the beach.

Don’t forget a light jacket and long pants for cooler evening temps.

Clothing for the Beach

Plan to pack a change of cool, comfortable clothing for the kids for each day, unless you’ll have laundry facilities available.

Other items to pack include:

  • Lightweight sweater or jacket and long pants (to be prepared for cool evenings and restaurants with very cool AC)
  • Two swimsuits for each child (this allows for accidents and drying time)
  • Beach towels (you can check ahead to see if beach towels are supplied; if not, pack two per person)
  • Cover ups (too much sun can ruin a vacation. Pack cover ups to protect the kids from too much sun.)
  • Hats (pack a hat that protects the head and face from the sun. Baseball hats or wide-brim hats work great!)
  • Waterproof footwear
  • Sunscreen (Choose a waterproof sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or higher and apply regularly)
  • Insect repellent and anti-itch cream

Beach Fun Accessories

When you think of kids playing at the beach, the first thing that comes to mind is buckets and shovels, which can take up quite a bit of valuable space when packing.

The Melissa & Doug Sunny Patch Cinco Starfish Collapsible Bucket addresses that problem. It collapses to tuck into your suitcase without taking up as much space and doubles as a beach bag with sturdy handles to collect shells and other treasures on the beach.

Other fun beach accessories to pack for the kids include sandcastle molds, but to save space you can save empty yogurt cups and other such containers used while on vacation. These disposable “toys” make great beach molds and can be thrown away before you head home.

Toys to pack that take up less space include:

  • Frisbee
  • Paddle ball
  • Inflatable beach ball
  • Inflatable flotation devices
  • Kite
  • Re-sealable bags for storing shells and other things collected on the beach

Packing with the kids in mind should also include a cooler stocked with plenty of water and healthy snacks to stay hydrated and energized. Don’t forget a waterproof camera, too, to capture all those memories!

That’s an extensive list. I’m a book, ball, and bucket person myself. My kids like to splash in the water, maybe make a sandcastle, and then flake out on the blanket with snacks. Now I can’t wait for warmer weather!
