Rock City Gardens

Rock City Gardens is part natural wonder featuring massive rock formations, plants, and stunning scenic views, while the other part consists of kitschy displays of fairy-tale characters that seem magical in this natural setting.

While visiting Rock City Gardens you’ll be able to take in a striking seven-state view and follow a 4,100 -foot walking trail. The path threads through impressive, towering rock formations like Fat Man’s Squeeze, a deep black crevice in the rocks.

Legend has it that gnomes and elves used to hold huge seasonal gatherings on the far side of this opening in a clearing. It is said they thought they were safe from human eyes here, until they recognized that some of us could wriggle our way through. That fact chased them deeper into the forest.

The trail ends at the Fairyland Caverns. Beyond this point visitors are treated to dioramas of scenes from fairy tales like Snow White and a room called Mother Goose’s Village. Kids of all ages love this.

Those who visit during the holiday season experience a bonus with Rock City’s Enchanted Garden of Lights. This holiday family tradition starts with dinner with Santa and is followed by a light extravaganza which features over 30 holiday scenes which use more than a million lights.

The lights magically convert the already stunning gardens into a fantasy land.
