Spring Butterfly Exhibit Returns to Desert Botanical Garden

February 24, 2015 by

The March the Spring Butterfly Exhibit returns to the Desert Botanical Garden’s Butterfly Pavilion in Phoenix. It runs from March 7 through May 12, 2015.

This year marks the 12th anniversary for this popular event where visitors can expect to witness hundreds of butterflies in the spacious 36-by-80 foot flight enclosed garden each day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

What You’ll See

As guests stroll through the picturesque Marshall Butterfly Pavilion they will find themselves surrounded by hundreds of fluttering butterflies.

It’s a lush colorful habitat where butterflies sip nectar and bask in the sun and includes a special outdoor display which showcases plants that attract butterflies.

Not only will guests see a wide range of North American butterflies like Giant Swallowtails, Great Southern Whites, Zebra Swallowtails, Queens, Painted Ladies, Malachites, Julias, and more, but the event also includes a Discovery Station where guests can see these delicate creatures up close.

Volunteer Garden “flight crews” are on hand to point out interesting things to see, answer questions, and offer interesting information about butterfly host plants.

This event is just $3.50 per person, with paid Garden admission for non-members 3 years and older. (Kids 2 and younger are free).

Admission for the Garden is $22 for adults, $20 for seniors 60 years old and older, $12 for students 13-18 and college with proper ID, $10 for kids 3-12. (Garden members are free).

Meet the Caterpillars Exhibit

For guests visiting the Desert Botanical Garden between March 7 and April 18, the Meet the Caterpillars Exhibit will also run on Saturday mornings. This exhibit offers the opportunity to learn about how a caterpillar forms a chrysalis, why some caterpillars have spines, and other interesting butterfly trivia.

It provides a chance for a hands-on, up-close look at caterpillars as you walk with a naturalist to learn more about butterfly host plants (limit 25 people per walk). Admission for this event is also $3.50 per person with paid Garden admission and kids under 3 are free.

The Desert Botanical Garden is located at 1201 North Galvin Parkway in Phoenix, AZ. For more information, call 480-941-1225 or visit their website. Before you visit, be sure to¬†download their free butterfly identification guide and don’t forget to pack your camera.
