Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley Opens this Summer

While the Wizarding World of Harry Potter opened in June 2010, the Diagon Alley section at Universal Studios Florida has been under construction since that time.

This summer the wait will be over, the under construction signs will come down, and the doors will open to the magical Wizarding World of Harry Potter Diagon Alley. Visitors can expect a fire-breathing dragon, self-stirring cauldrons, dancing skeletons and even the popular Leaky Cauldron pub.

The designers of the Diagon Alley section of the Wizarding World have hidden this attraction’s entrance from the outside with building facades like the Wyndham Theater, Leicester Square’s tube station, Grimmauld Place, and other popular building façades created to scale.

Visitors will enter beneath the arches of the Leicester Square façade, but exactly how that will done has not yet been revealed. Once inside, guests will be engaged in the busy wizarding hub inside a Muggle city amid cockeyed towering buildings with steep staircases and jagged edges.

Escape from Gringotts

One of the most talked-about new rides is Escape from Gringotts. This multi-sensory thrill ride travels through the vaults of the famous Goblin Bank. The dragon perched on top the bank building even blows a giant ball of fire!

Plenty of Shops

Harry Potter themed shops will include Madam Malkin’s Robes for All Occasions for Hogwarts, the three-story Weasleys’ Wizard Wheezes shop, the Magical Menagerie, Quality Quidditch Supplies, and more. The wand shop Ollivanders in Diagon Alley will be bigger than the one currently located within Hogsmeade at Islands of Adventure.

Harry Potter has breathed new life into the Universal Theme park with an increase in revenue of more than 30% in 2010, another 25% jump in 2011, and a 5% boost in 2012. A ticket to Universal Studios provides access to Diagon Alley, however if you want to visit Hogmeade via the Hogwarts Express, you’ll have to pay for park-to-park admission.
